چکیده

The objective of this paper is to critically review the significance of MBR technology for wastewater treatment derived Biodiesel plant with Alkali-Catalyzed Trans-esterification process. The whole study was carried out into two stages. In the first stage, pretreatment was studied with H2SO4 at the different pH range of 2.4 to 9 along with the removal efficiencies of BOD, COD and Oil & Greases. It was found that wastewater derived from Biodiesel Plant with Alkali Catalyzed Trans-esterification process contained a high pH, low nitrogen content and high hexane extracted oil which inhibited the growth of micro-organisms. Therefore, several nutrients such as nitrogen source (ammonium sulfate, ammonium chloride or urea), yeast extract, KH2PO4 and MgSO4.7H2O were studied to find out the favorable conditions for micro-organism growth in wastewater. The optimal C/N ratio was studied between 17 and 68 when using urea as a nitrogen source. In the second stage, submerged membrane bioreactor (MBR) was studied for the acidified waste water at different hydraulic retention times (HRTs) to find out the removal efficiencies of COD, BOD and Oil & Grease. Keyword: Submerged Membrane bioreactor (MBR); Biodiesel wastewater treatment; Microfiltration; Commercial application; Oil-rich phase

Industrial Wastewater Treatment by Using MBR (Membrane Bioreactor) Review Study

This study demonstrated the importance, process, activation and applications of Membrane in bioreactor to treat the waste water. Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) process consists of a biological reactor integrated with membranes that combine clarification and filtration of an activated sludge process into a simplified, single step process. Operating as an MBR allows conventional activated sludge plant...

Developing a multi-criteria decision support system based on fuzzy analytical hierarchical process (AHP) method for selection of appropriate high-strength wastewater treatment plant

The selection of optimum high strength wastewater treatment process is complicated. Be familiar with wastewater treatment methods is not enough to design a plant. In this research, five alternative wastewater treatment methods (upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) + membrane bioreactor (MBR), UASB + Extended aeration (EA), Anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR), anaerobic lagoon (ANL) + aerated lago...

Membrane Biological Reactors (MBR) and Their Applications for Water Reuse

The term 'membrane bioreactor' expresses a combination of activated sludge and membrane separation processes. The need to processes like sedimentation and disinfection used in common methods is eliminated through MBR systems in a way that membranes are placed into or out of an aeration tank and the vacuumed wastewater created by the suction pump is pulled up from inside the membranes and leaves...
